The start of the New Year is always a time to dream, to think big.

I recently watched an interview with Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson after they completed their quest to climb the Dawn Wall of El Capitan without tools or ropes. For 19 days, they ate, slept and climbed the Yosemite Mountain in an attempt to be the first to free climb the steep wall. As I watched the interview, I thought about how easy it is to think a task is too big or out of our reach. Hence, most of us don’t even try. The shame is that we are capable of so much more. All of us have that big climb in us. Think of what you can accomplish if you dream big, plan and then set off to execute on that plan. Tommy and Kevin planned for years for their big climb. They experimented, invested in their skills and created a plan. They thought about all of the “what if’s” before embarking on their challenge by they took the most important first leap (no pun intended) and set off to conquer the adventure. I am sure that they had some moments of doubt but they marched forward. While we are not all trying to climb Yosemite’s highest peaks, at times, a life long dream can seem insurmountable. Follow in the footsteps of Tommy and Kevin. Go for it! Think positive and make it happen.
